A little odd to say of a Man … but I’ve said several times sense my meeting with Captain Henderson, of the Salvation Army on Jackson st., Dwn. Town Milwaukee, that I felt as though I was encountering an Angel.
As I listened to Capt. Henderson tell, at my request, the story of William Booth (founder of Salvation Army). He ended up on his own … going door to door raising funds to help feed and minister to the poor and broken people of his day… the elders of the church that he had pastor’d would not support his vision – so Booth and his wife, convicted as they were, determined to do it with none to help but the God they were serving…
I was so moved to here this gentle and anointed man – it felt as though angles had filled the room as Henderson discussed the call of the church today … which is to go to the broken…
Booth is quoted as having said… “Go straight for souls, and go for the worst”.
How awesome is that??… if we could maintain that kind of focus – all of the WORLD would be able to see Christ in us everyday…
We discussed how fractured the church is today… with all of it’s contentions/factions… sharing w/him our desire to bring unity among all believers...
I’ve got to say… I felt the Holy Ghost while talking to Capt. Henderson in such a remarkable fashion… I'd say it has been rare to feel the Holy Spirit emanating from some one in such a powerful way... when I got home I told my wife that I felt as if I had just sat and talked with an Angel.
One of the greatest things about ministry is God opens doors for you to mingle with some of the most amazing people to every walk in shoe leather…
I really want to say that I feel like I am a better man today for having taken an 1 and a ½ hours of this Godly mans time…
I hope that all of the Salvation Army comes to know what a jewel of a man they have serving with them… & I am certain he is carrying well the same anointing of William Booth…
It would be worth your time and finances to get to know a little more about the tremendous ministry of the Salvation Army - and don't ever be shy about donating to such a wonderful cause.
